Youth Ministry Mission Statement

x
Strengthening the spiritual life of youth through
involvement and guidance in order to make Christ known.

The diocesan Youth Department has two main sections, namely, "Campus Ministry " and "Parish Youth Ministries."

Due to a current shortage of staff, Mrs. Josie Tengatenga, the Schools and Colleges Chaplain is also serving as the acting Diocesan Youth Coordinator.

The work of youth coordination involves the organizing of training workshops to equip youth leaders for effective ministry among youth.

As Chaplain, I am involved in pastoral care, counseling and offer career guidance and moral support to students at their campuses.

The ultimate goal of the church is to win souls for Christ.

The Youth Ministry department exists to provide spiritual guidance and training so that the youth may develop into mature followers of Christ.

YOUTH MINISTRY MAIN OBJECTIVES

- To ensure full participation of youth in life of the church.

- To promote coordination between youth and adults within the church.

- To strengthen unity among various sectors of the youth groups.

- To promote openness in discussing spiritual matters and
everyday life experiences of the youth.

- To bring about effective and rational ways of raising resources and their use.

YOUTH MINISTRY STRATEGIES

- Organizing and planning youth friendly programs and involving youth in decision making.

- Promoting dialogue, healthy relationships and unity among youth and their peers and among youth and adults.

- Enhancing exchange visits and learning experiences through conferences and workshops among different groups.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

The Society of Anglican Students (SAS) is an active organization found in some secondary schools and colleges in the diocese. We have the following colleges: College of Medicine, School of Health Sciences and the Polytechnic.

The Polytechnic students meet every Tuesday evening while the College of Medicine meets on Friday evening during term time.

They pray, study the bible and sing together.

The work entails visiting, counseling and pastoral care and assisting in making arrangements for retreats, conferences and workshops.

Once a year we have a joint schools and colleges rally and we also have a four day conference with other dioceses.

YOUTH MINISTRY WITH AND IN PARISHES

The Youth Ministry department works with all
of the parishes in the Diocese of Southern Malawi.

We have a total of 18 parishes.
Almost all have active groups involved in a variety of activities.

And, the choirs in almost all the parishes are youth.

Every year we hold a four day
Diocesan Youth Conference.
