TRINITY ANGLICAN SECONDARY SCHOOL (TASS)
Mr. Tom Kanyuka - Chairperson of Board of Directors (TASS)
Owing
a Secondary School is one of the objectives in the Strategic Plan of the
Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi. Trinity Anglican Secondary School
(formerly Sunnyside private School) was bought from Mrs G. Amani in December
2007 and Diocese of Southern Malawi took possession of the school in January 2008. This school is
private and it does not get any Malawi Government subvention.
The School before the recent renovations were made
The
school is registered with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology,
and was inspected in December 2009.

The Head takes the Bishop on a tour of the school. New look of the school after the renovations had been made.
The
school follows MSCE and Junior Certificate of Education Syllabi. The subjects
being taught are English, Mathematics, Biology, Physical Science, Geography,
History, Chichewa, Bible Knowledge, Life Skills, Information Technology,
Agriculture, French, Business Studies and Social Studies.

Students
As
at 14th April 2010, being the second year since Diocese of Southern Malawi took over the
school, the total enrollment is 70 pupils (Form 1. 27 pupils; Form 2. 10 pupils;
Form 3. 11 pupils; Form 4. 16 pupils). There are 6 teachers and there are
vacancies for three more teachers whose interviews have been held and
appointments will be made by 1st May 2010.

Diocese
of Southern Malawi established a Board of Education to direct the running of
the Secondary School and the 6 DSM Primary Schools. Trinity Secondary School
(TASS) has a Parents and Teachers Association whose Chairperson is a member of
the Board of Education.
Results
at both Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) are improving.
STATUS OF TASS
Physical
structures have been improved using funds from a Golf Tournament organized end
year 2009. There is still more work to be done:
-
Library needs
to be rehabilitated
-
Kitchen
-
Dormitories
-
Staff houses
which are located outside the school fence.
DSM
received a donation of a much needed multipurpose hall, but these funds are not
sufficient to complete the project. To date, 200,000 bricks have been moulded
and the construction works will start only after more funds are identified.
DSM
received a donation of books from our friends in the USA. These books are
waiting to be cataloged immediately the library is rehabilitated using funds
expected United Thanks Offering (UTO).
DSM
has received a donation of US$ 2,000 from USA friends which will be used to
purchase a Deep Freezer and a Photocopier (Printer for the School)
A
1½ tonne vehicle for the school was bought using a donation from our USA
friends.
Some
members of TASS Board donated various items to the school. More donations are
welcome contacting the Headmaster.
CHALLENGES
i.
The increase in enrollment will require more bunk beds, mattresses, renovation of dormitories.
ii.
Information
Technology Course has been introduced using rented computers. There is need for
the school to have its own computers. DSM is sourcing computers from donors.
iii.
There is need
to build teachers houses at the school so that more teachers reside at the
school.
iv.
Finance is a
major challenge although with increased enrollment, TASS will be able to meet
its running expenses.
CONCLUSION
·
This is a long
term investment for DSM.
·
All Christians
and their friends need to support this school as it is comparable and in some
cases better than some private Secondary Schools.
